Kreg screws are pan-head, and seat just fine against a flat surface. both drywall screws and kreg pocket screws are self-threading, so you don't need pilot holes in the second sheet of mdf. regardless of which type of screw you use, you'll need to flip the panel and use a countersink drill to on all of the exit holes.. The screw doesn't extend past the end of the bench when the vise is opened, making this vise a great choice for cramped shops. the dog block also cannot raise up when tightened. the area around the vise will always remain as flat as the rest of the bench, since the "moving block" section of the traditional tail vise is eliminated.. The fourth option, the twin-screw vise, handles tenons and edge-planing fine, but doesn’t support work as well as a tail vise for face-planing. these advantages are why i chose a tail vise for my bench. for many woodworkers, building and installing a tail vise seems intimidating, but it shouldn’t be..
